Kitten Care

Congratulations on the newest member of your family, a kitten!

Bringing a new kitten into your home is a heartwarming experience filled with the promise of companionship and joy. As you embark on this delightful journey, it’s essential to prioritize your feline friend’s well-being from the start. One of the initial steps in responsible pet ownership is scheduling their first veterinary appointment. This crucial visit serves as a comprehensive health check, providing an opportunity for vaccinations, parasite prevention, and an overall assessment of your kitten’s condition.

Early veterinary care not only establishes a baseline for their health but also sets the stage for a lifetime of well-monitored and happy companionship. In this introduction to your new kitten’s life, prioritizing their veterinary care is a fundamental step toward ensuring a healthy, thriving, and deeply cherished feline family member.

Kitten Vaccinations

Kitten Visit and Vaccine Protocol at VIDA Denver

For the first couple months in life, kittens are protected from disease by antibodies they received through their mother’s milk. Over time, this protection fades, and they need vaccines in order to continue being protected.

Vaccines stimulate the kitten’s own immune system to recognize and fend off certain diseases, but it takes multiple vaccines, or “boosters”, to get them fully protected. In general, kittens need three shots, 3-4 weeks apart with the last vaccine given no younger than 16 weeks. Ideally, the first set of vaccines start at 6 to 8 weeks or immediately upon acquisition.

What Our Clients Are Saying

I have been taking my cat Moosh to Vida in Denver since she was a kitten (she’s now 4). I have never met a more wonderful team than Dr. Kelsey Schroeder, Tyler, & Hannah. Their kindness, authenticity, and attention to detail is unmatched regarding their care for animals, and their customer service skills. Best Vida Vet team that I’ve experienced in years. They not only eased Moosh’s anxiety, they eased mine too! I am happy to put the trust of Moosh’s care in their hands, and that really means a lot. Thank you to this team for their hard work and dedication to care for pet clients, and their owners too!
